Author visits and the classes/workshops held in The Kitchen Studio continue to be popular. Our recent fermentation class was a pungent success with Joel McCharles of wellpreserved.ca. Attendees coming from as far away as Rochester, Buffalo and Bowmanville. All left inspired!
We are finalizing dates for breadmaking and edible gardening for balconies/small spaces and more dates for our ever popular knife skills so stay tuned, and let us know if there is something you'd like to learn more about.

Cheesemaking at Home: A Workshop/Class with Kelsie Parsons

Ever wanted to make cheese at home? Find it difficult to find a truly fresh queso fresco in the grocery store? Join us for an insightful demo on making cheese at home with Canadian cheese expert Kelsie Parsons.

Kelsie will demonstrate how to make three cheeses; queso fresco, paneer and labneh (yoghurt cheese) - all simple recipes that people can make at home. Helpful information on where to get all of the necessary equipment, rennet, and different cultures will be supplied so you will have all the confidence you need to get started at home. Of course there will be tastes and nibbles as well!

For those who love to cook, it can be daunting when it comes time to cook for friends and family with allergies. Laurie, who is herself celiac, will discuss gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, soy-free recipes, how to adapt your own recipes or those in your favourite cookbooks, as well as resources and answering all your questions.You wont want to miss Laurie dispensing a fountain of information which will make allergy free cooking and baking so much easier. Laurie is the author of The Allergy-Free Cook Bakes Bread, and The Allergy-Free Cook Bakes Cakes and Cookies.

It seems funny to say that eggs are having a resurgence in popularity but with such beautiful varieties being produced by heritage breeds of chickens and other fowl, it's true - we're egg-cited for eggs again! Chef Duffy from Cafe Boulud, shows us how he creates some of his favourite egg dishes from omeletes and Spanish tortillas, to custards and cakes.

Janice Poon, the extraordinary food stylist for Hannibal, the thriller television series on CITY and NBC, will be our guide as we delve into the fiendish dinner creations of the diabolical Dr. Lector.

Chef Matt Kantor, who was the creative chef behind the infamous 24 course elBulli extravaganza and the Rush themed dinners in the store, will be slicing and dicing up the beguiling multi course menu.

Anupy gave one of the most engaging and informative signings we've ever had for her best selling cookbook The Indian Slow Cooker. So we welcome back this Chicago native and TV personality to top her last appearance with a demo workshop in the Kitchen Studio next door to us. Cool Copenhagen will highlight Danish culture and products in several exciting, attractive and interactive ways. Na-Cl, who are some of Denmark's most talented chefs doing show-cooking, will be preparing dishes on stage for the audience, Bjarke Ingels, from BIG Architecture, will be doing an interactive presentation, and Giana Factory will finish off the night with a concert at the Drake venue. The girlband is recognised as one of the most promising Danish acts. Throughout the evening, there will be several surprises and products shown in unexpected ways. Tickets are $125. Harold McGee is revered in the food community for his writing about the science of food and cooking (On Food and Cooking). There are no tickets available for purchase for this event. Every spectator or participant must raise a minimum of $2500 to attend the event. Remember, only the top 50 fundraisers will earn the ability to show off their culinary skills in the ultimate battle on stage, alongside the all-star line-up of Celebrity Chefs. Registration fee of $100 will apply. Once you have registered you can immediately start to fundraise! Deadline for donations is Thursday November 18th at 5 pm.
