Knife Skills Classes in February

The ever popular hands on knife skills classes are back for February. Chef Martin Kouprie, co-owner of Pangaea restaurant leads us in care, handling and use of the knife. You bring your favourite knife, we provide cutting board and fruits and veggies to chop. We will have extra knives for you to try as well. Choose a night that suits, bring a friend and learn skills that will last a life time.

Well we can't believe we've never had an apple pie contest so here we go! Two categories: traditional two crust pie; then everything else! Bring one pie, 8'' or 9'' not a tartlet, as well as the recipe, and if the recipe is from a cookbook, please indicate which cookbook.
Pies must be in to the store by noon on Saturday October 1st. Judging will begin at 2pm.
In addition during the day (and evening) we will be sampling heritage apples from our friends at Siloam Orchards. Also the wonderful jazz ensemble lead by Charlie Finlay, will be back this year to lead us into Nuit Blanche, 7 pm show time. Free event.

Cool Copenhagen will highlight Danish culture and products in several exciting, attractive and interactive ways. Na-Cl, who are some of Denmark's most talented chefs doing show-cooking, will be preparing dishes on stage for the audience, Bjarke Ingels, from BIG Architecture, will be doing an interactive presentation, and Giana Factory will finish off the night with a concert at the Drake venue. The girlband is recognised as one of the most promising Danish acts. Throughout the evening, there will be several surprises and products shown in unexpected ways. Tickets are $125. Then join us as two of Toronto's most talented stylists show you tricks of their trade and tell their hilarious stories of working as a food stylist. Sandra Watson has worked on Food Network shows as well as with many renowned local and international authors. Ettie Shuken new it was time to switch careers when as an art teacher she described all paints in food terms... lemon yellow, chocolate brown, borscht and sour cream pink! Ettie works with corporate clients as well as magazines, so this dynamic duo brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from all facets of the food world for those looking to spruce up their food presentation skills or those just curious about the world of food styling.
