CB: The first album/CD/eight track you bought?
BS: In 1965/66 I was very busy stalking Leonard Cohen when he was still a poet but wanted to be a famous singer. My girlfriend and I crashed the Beautiful Losers launch party at the old Four Seasons on Jarvis Street.

CB: What was your first car?
BS: A brown Mercury Zephyr.

CB: Your favourite junk food?
BS: Great ice cream.

CB: What kitchen gadget, or piece of equipment can't you live without?
BS: Peppermill (Peppermate); Tongs; Garlic press.

CB: Your favourite ingredient, or food?
BS: That depends on my mood. It could be lemon, vanilla, chipotles, cumin or cilantro.

CB: Most over-rated ingredient, or food?
BS: Saffron.

CB: What was the first cookbook you used?
BS: Kate Aitken or Jenny Grossinger.

CB: Your favourite authors, doesn't have to be cookbook authors?
BS: John Irving, David Rakoff, Bill Buford.

CB: Your favourite city?
BS: Toronto of course!

CB: What is your greatest extravagance/indulgence?
BS: If it’s a really big indulgence its usually happened by accident!

CB: Your favourite movie?
BS: Gone with the Wind.

CB: What was your first job?
BS: I worked in a dry cleaner because I was going to Europe.

CB: What kind of music do you like?
BS: Obviously Leonard Cohen!

CB: Your favourite sports team?
BS: The Jays.

CB: Your pet peeve when dining out?
BS: Pepper. They want to put pepper on everything.

CB: Your favourite drink?
BS: Pomegranate Cosmopolitan.

CB: If you could change one thing in the food & wine industry what would it be?
BS: Customers would have more respect for servers.

CB: Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
BS: The late Ed Weil from Cuisinart.

CB: What four people, dead or alive, would you invite to dinner (assuming you would invite your significant other to have six around the table)?
BS: Leonard, my mother & father and Ed Weil.
